This highly flavorful purple pod is also known as the Royalty Purple pod. Once the purple podded snap bean is cooked it turns green. It is stringless and is a great addition to cool weather gardens. These beans are also a great hit for farmers as there vibrant color can be very eye appealing at farmer’s market. Royal Burgundy Bean is bush beans that produce small runners. These beans fully mature in 50-70 days and are annuals. They are resistant to common pests and diseases and like many other beans, Royal Burgundy Bean is fast growers and does not require a trellis or pole for support.
How to grow:
You can direct sow Royals Burgundy Bush bean seeds outside 1-2 weeks after last spring frost in full sun 1” deep and 3-6” apart. Rows should be planted 2’ apart and dirt above the seeds could be pressed down for good soil contact. Seeds do best in rich, well-drained soil. Beans need light, but even, watering to thrive. When watering water close to the root, beans seeds rot easily so don’t overwater them. To succession planting sow seeds every 7-10 days. Once plants germinate maintain soil moisture. Beans can be harvested when beans reach the size of 3-5” long. These plants are great companion plants for carrots, cumbers, or corn.
